About The Irish Setter
Living With an Irish Setter

Penny and Theo with their Happy Owners
Living with an Irish Setter is fun because they show us humans how to love and appreciate every moment of life. All dogs live "in the moment," and Irish Setters bring in energy, enthusiasm, and an opportunity to rollick at any occasion. Contrary to popular myths, the Irish Setter is extremely smart--they just have their own agenda. That is, to enjoy life and teach the owner just where fun moments are.
My dogs are all house dogs--they are all trained and will abide by my house rules. Owners must be fair and consistent and ALPHA. Being Alpha means that you see yourself as pack leader/chief/ruler of the house. Walk proudly and establish the boundaries. Never loose your temper. Just maintain the aura and energy as "the ruler."
Remember that Irish Setters always have an "agenda." They quickly figure out "your number" and from there seek ways to fulfill life at each moment. They will let you know what they are up to, and what they want--which is usually a walk, run in the park, or food treat. When you take them for a run, they will go "fielding" out in front of you. Irish Setters are high energy dogs because they were bred to run out front of their master, who was on horseback hunting birds.
Given lots of love, attention, exercise and structured obedience in the home, the Irish Setter will be your loving companion--and keep you fit through life.
